If you get to choose what type of stand size your prefer, what will you choose? How do you actually determine what is best in this? In order to provide you with this support, I have identified and set out the different possibilities in this blog. Most important is the goal proposition with which you participate on the fair. This determines which type of booth is best suited to this. For example, each type of dimension has many possibilities, but also limitations to keep in mind.
Different stand sizes
On the map of the fair there are, in most cases, 4 different types of stand sizes. A Head stand (3 sides aisle), Corner stand (2 sides aisle), Island stand (4 sides aisle) and a Row stand (1 side aisle). Now what is the best choice with your goal and in your situation? Hopefully the below clarification will help you:
Head stand
From a design point of view, a head stand is often the best choice. This is because you have 1 side to communicate from and this side is clearly visible from 3 aisle sides. Because you have 3 adjacent aisles there are many traffic possibilities to trigger visitors. TIP: Inform or let yourself be informed what the back neighbors are going to do! So that you don’t get any surprises on location. Nothing so annoying when you have put a lot of energy into a very good concept and that the neighbor puts a meter above you out with an ugly back wall.
Corner stand
After the head stand this is the best choice from a design point of view. 2 sides from which you can communicate recorded by the organization in the map. These are often the corner points of the row or an island divided into 4 equal parts. Because you have 2 walls you can logically make a distribution for branding and possibly introduction or presentation of (innovation) products. With 2 adjacent aisles there is enough movement around the stand space, from which people have a good view of the booth. How busy it is on the booth space depends entirely on how you are going to set up the space and to appeal to the target group.
Island stand
You might expect that an island stand is the most beneficial to create a creative design for? This is because there are 4 aisles at the booth boundaries. But because it is not allowed to close one side on many fairs (in lowercase letters), it becomes a challenge. Often you cannot build more than 50% of one side. It is advisable to let you know in advance about this. You usually need wall surfaces to present your message or product introductions properly. If you want to offer mainly hospitality and have informative meetings, an island stand is by far the best choice. Of course you can make an island stand a great fair participation, but it often requires a higher budget and creativity from the designer and booth builder. And it is good to know which restrictions the organization or local authorities are imposing.
Row stand
A row stand position requires a whole different approach. If you set up the space by default with the branding of your company and do nothing extra, then you will be absorbed into the crowd. If you choose an intermediate stand then I would always go for the intermediate position on which an aisle comes right, if possible. Then you still have 3 sides an aisle. If you are in line, it is very important that you present yourself differently from your neighbors. Make sure to appeal to potential customers in the aisle. Or put your table or display half in the aisle. If you don’t, rent a professional in the aisle that actively makes visitors warm for you. This is really worth the investment! Together with a good story and a good cup of coffee it comes in quite well.

Good luck with the options on the map.
